Golden Masterpieces of Russian Music: Andreevsky Orchestra to Reveal the «Soul of Russia»

State Academic Russian Orchestra named after V.V. Andreev will visit Samara and Penza with the program «Soul of Russia».

The famous group will perform at the Penza Regional Philharmonic on November 25 at 18:30, and on the stage of the Samara Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after D.D. Shostakovich on November 27 at 18:30.

State Academic Russian Orchestra named after V.V. Andreev is the first professional group in world history in which national instruments were united according to the principle of a symphony orchestra. The idea belongs to its founder, the outstanding Russian musician, composer and public figure Vasily Vasilyevich Andreev. Since its first concert performance on March 20, 1888, the Andreevsky Orchestra has been the pride and glory of Russian art and the pearl of world musical culture.

«Over the more than 135 years of the Andreevsky Orchestra’s existence, many musical experiments have been carried out, from the search for the optimal composition of the orchestra to music written specifically for the group and arrangements of classical music. The Russian orchestra has its own unique voice. Even abroad, its sound is immediately associated with Russia. «And this is a matter of our special pride» says the artistic director and chief conductor of the State Academic Russian Orchestra named after V.V. Andreev, People's Artist of Russia Dmitry Khokhlov.

The group visited Samara last year with an anniversary program dedicated to the 135th anniversary of its creation. It is curious that it was from this city that the rise of this unique orchestra began. The fact is that the first known performance of Vasily Andreyev with a balalaika took place in Samara. On July 26, 1884, he performed in a divertissement after a performance staged by vacationers at the Annaevskaya dacha.

The visit to Penza will be the first in the modern history of the group. The tour in this city last took place in 1938.

At the concert «Soul of Russia», soloists of the Samara Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after D.D. Shostakovich, laureates of international competitions Svetlana Kashirina (mezzo-soprano) and Stepan Volkov (bass-baritone) will perform together with the Andreevsky Orchestra.

Conductor: Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Andreevsky Orchestra, People's Artist of Russia Dmitry Khokhlov.
