Broadcast of the first performance of the suite from the ballet "Raymonda" for the 160th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Glazunov

On August 10, 160 years after his birth, the world of music honors the renowned Russian composer Alexander Konstantinovich Glazunov.

In addition to writing chamber music, ballets, and symphonies, he was the first internationally renowned composer to produce an original piece especially for the Russian orchestra.

"Russian Fantasy" was composed for the Great Russian Orchestra and is frequently played by the Andreevsky Orchestra. Up until recently, the group's repertoire consisted solely of Glazunov's vocal pieces, two ballet snippets, and the outstanding Concert Waltz.

On August 14, at 19:00, a significant event will take place in the VKontakte community of the Andreevsky Orchestra: a broadcast of the recording of the first ever performance of the suite from the ballet "Raymonda" under the direction of conductor Evgeny Khokhlov. The ballet Raymonda, which was made for the renowned Marius Petipa, is regarded as the pinnacle of Russian romanticism. Exquisite melodies, oriental exoticism, and knightly dignity abound in the music. The concert suite will immerse listeners in the realm of Moorish and Hungarian dances, palace festivities, and the heroine's aspirations. When the score is adapted for a folk orchestra, well-known music takes on new, stunning hues and intonations.

"Although it is not often played in symphony concerts, the music from Glazunov's ballet Raymonda never fails to catch the attention of the audience. We've put together a collection of Raymonda's most stunning pieces, which sound particularly vibrant when played by a Russian orchestra," said conductor Evgeny Khokhlov.
