The First All-Russian Festival “Alto Domra: Pro Solo”

From January 31 to February 2, 2026, St Petersburg will host the First All-Russian Festival “Alto Domra: Pro Solo”, held in celebration of the 130th anniversary of the alto domra—a unique Russian instrument known for its expressive tone and rich performance potential.

The festival will bring together leading performers, teachers, composers, instrument makers, university students, and pupils of music schools from across Russia. All events will take place in person at major cultural venues in St Petersburg, including the M. P. Mussorgsky St Petersburg Music College, the Sheremetev Palace, and the Maxim Gorky House of Scientists.

“The festival is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the alto domra. In 1896, master luthier Semyon Nalimov created the alto domra following the smaller domra, thereby expanding and enriching the Andreev Orchestra. The mission of this first festival is to spark greater interest in Russian musical culture, to draw the attention of musicians, composers, and audiences to the instrument’s artistic possibilities, to foster connections between cities, to build strong professional ties among music school pupils, students, teachers, and performing artists, and to promote the alto domra as a solo instrument,”
said Natalia Churina, Artistic Director of the festival, laureate of national and international competitions, and soloist of the Andreev Orchestra.
