Dmitry Khokhlov's Anniversary

The staff of the State Academic Russian Orchestra named after V. V. Andreev congratulates its director, People's Artist of the Russian Federation Dmitry Khokhlov, on his 80th birthday. The Maestro, who has been at the helm of one of Russia's oldest orchestras since 1986, is celebrating this significant milestone at the conductor's stand of his beloved ensemble, with which a major part of his creative life has been inextricably linked.

Dmitry Khokhlov belongs to a cohort of conductors shaped by two great schools — the Leningrad and Moscow Conservatories. As a student of Professors E. P. Kudryavtseva and B. E. Khaikin, he absorbed the traditions of academic mastery, which he later brilliantly applied to his work with a Russian folk orchestra. His conducting career began at the highest level: at the Mariinsky (Kirov) Theatre and the Leningrad Philharmonic, and also included leading symphony orchestras in Kazakhstan and Mongolia, providing him with a unique experience of working with diverse musical cultures.

However, the main work of Dmitry Khokhlov's life became his service to the Andreev Orchestra. During his years of leadership, the collective not only preserved the authentic sound of Russian folk instruments but also reached a fundamentally new global level. Under the direction of Maestro Khokhlov, the orchestra has conquered the world's best stages. The geography of their tours includes performances at the legendary Carnegie Hall in New York, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C., the Stockholm Concert Hall (Stockholms Konserthus) , Victoria Hall in Geneva, the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron) , the Beijing Grand Theatre (NCPA) , and many other prestigious venues across Europe, Asia, and America.
