Sergey Mikheev
Artist of the balalaikas seconda group

Born in Petrozavodsk. At the age of nine, he became acquainted with the balalaika in a circle at the city Palace of Pioneers and fell in love with this instrument. He was a member of ensembles and a children's orchestra, and performed solo numbers. But the childhood dream of «being like Necheporenko» was not destined to come true. Damage to the tendons of the fingers of his left hand (as a result of a boyish prank with a Finnish knife) became a serious obstacle in mastering the instrument, but did not change his intentions to become a musician. At first, I enjoyed attending the choir club rehearsals, and later, at the same time, after recovering from an injury, I enrolled in a piano club. In 1964 he graduated from the Petrozavodsk Music College named after K.E. Rautio specializes in choral conducting and singing. He passed the state exam in his specialty by conducting a choir with an orchestra of Russian instruments.

He received his degree at the N.A. Rimsky-named State Conservatory in Leningrad (St. Petersburg) in 1969. Rimsky-Korsakov is a professional choir conductor. From 1968 to 1975 – conductor of the State Song and Dance Ensemble of Karelia «Kantele».

From 1975 to 2000, he taught conducting, instrumentation and score reading at the folk instruments department of the Petrozavodsk College of Music, headed the conducting section, and directed the student orchestra. Member of various instrumental ensembles and the city amateur orchestra of folk instruments.

From 2000 to 2004 he was an artist of the orchestra of Russian folk instruments «Onego» of the Karelian State Philharmonic. Since 2004 he has been an artist of the balalaikas secunda group of the State Academic Russian Orchestra named after V.V.Andreev.
