Irina Petrova
Artist of the group of the first small domras

Born in Leningrad. She learnt to play the domra at the St. Petersburg Musical Lyceum under the tutelage of Z.P. Lisovenko, an Honored Cultural Worker of Russia. She played in the Balalaika orchestra under the direction of Honored Cultural Worker of Russia A.M. Dolgov. She fell in love with playing Russian instruments in orchestras and ensembles when she was in school, and she chose to pursue her professional studies under A.G. Nikolaev at the Music College named after M. P. Mussorgsky. For graduating with honors from the college, she went on to study under Professor I.I. Shitenkov and Professor N.N. Shkrebko, an Honored Artist of Russia, at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory named for N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov.

From 1998 to 2005 she worked in the Cossack Song and Dance Ensemble under the direction of A.Mukienko. In 2005, she participated in the creation of the song and dance ensemble «Bagatitsa», being the musical director of the orchestral group. As part of ensembles, she has repeatedly become a laureate of international competitions.

Since 2005 she has been an artist of the State Academic Russian Orchestra named after V.V.Andreev.

Irina Petrova shares her performing experience with students at the St. Petersburg Music Lyceum. Among its graduates are competition winners and students of music schools in St. Petersburg.
