Dmitry Khokhlov
People's Artist of Russia, artistic director and chief conductor

A graduate of the Leningrad and Moscow Conservatories, a student of outstanding musicians E.P. Kudryavtsev and B.E.Khaikin. His conducting biography includes work at the Mariinsky (Kirov) Theatre (1977-79), the Leningrad Philharmonic (1979-83), direction of the State Symphony Orchestras of Kazakhstan and Mongolia, and numerous tours.

Since 1986 he has been the artistic director and chief conductor of the State Academic Russian Orchestra named after V.V.Andreev.

Together with the ensemble he led, he performed in many countries around the world, in such famous halls as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington, Boston Symphony Hall, the Stockholm Philharmonic, the Palau de la Musica in Barcelona, Victoria Hall in Geneva, Megaro Hall in Athens, the Grand Theatre in Beijing and many others.

Currently, the conductor is actively involved in concert activities, performing with the Andreevsky Orchestra, as well as in opera houses and symphony orchestras in Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan.

In 2003 he was invited to conduct the Philharmonic Orchestra in Osaka, Japan.

From 1988 to 2018 he taught conducting at the St. Petersburg Conservatory.

State Academic Russian Orchestra named after V. V. Andreev

The State Academic Russian Orchestra named after V. V. Andreev is the first professional group in world history in which national instruments were united according to the principle of a symphony orchestra. The idea belongs to its founder, the outstanding Russian musician, composer and public figure Vasily Vasilyevich Andreev. Since its first concert performance on March 20, 1888, the Andreevsky Orchestra has been the pride and glory of Russian art and the pearl of world musical culture.
