Russian romance

The first half of the 19th century was the heyday of Russian romance, the true masters of which were Alexander Gurilev and Alexander Varlamov.

At the concerts of the Andreevsky Orchestra dedicated to these composers, a whole series of poetic pages from their work will be performed by soloists from St. Petersburg theaters.

The romances and songs of Varlamov and Gurilev are imbued with love for Russian song; its depth and sincerity can be heard in every note of their works. Romances such as Varlamov’s «Red Sarafan» or Gurilev’s «Bell» became the embodiment of Russian melody and served as an example for composers of subsequent generations.

The concert will feature soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre Ekaterina Shimanovich, Irina Mataeva, Dmitry Voropaev, as well as soloist of the Saint Petersburg Opera Theatre Olesya Gordeeva.

Conductor: People's Artist of Russia Dmitry Khokhlov.
