The Soul of Russia

The Soul of Russia

The Andreevsky Orchestra dedicates its final concerts of this season to two outstanding phenomena of Russian culture.

In 2024, Russia celebrates the 225th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin. The great Russian poet made a huge contribution to the development of Russian literature and culture.

Traditionally, we call A.S. Pushkin a poet, but his talent is comprehensive - he wrote novels, stories, poems, fairy tales, dramatic works, odes, elegies, epigrams, sonnets, messages, madrigals and critical articles. Some of the most famous works of A.S. Pushkin include the novel in verse «Eugene Onegin», the novels «Dubrovsky» and «The Negro of Peter the Great», as well as the stories «The Captain's Daughter», «The Queen of Spades», «The Stationmaster», «The Young Lady-Peasant» and «The Shot».

Traditionally, at the end of June, the Andreevsky Orchestra celebrates Balalaika Day. This holiday, which appeared in 2008, recalls the first discovered mention of the balalaika in the document «Memory from the Streletsky Prikaz to the Little Russian Prikaz» on June 23, 1688. The first part of the concert is dedicated to Balalaika Day.

The concert will feature:

Soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre, laureate of international competitions Viktor Korotich, baritone;
Soloist of the Mussorgsky Theatre, laureate of international competitions Svetlana Monchak;
Soloist-instrumentalists of the Andreevsky Orchestra.
